Jeita Community Center

Created for Jeita’s Latin church community and open to the public, the community centre brings shared gathering space and religious architecture into one composition.

The brief

The project serves a church community while welcoming a wider public. An outdoor court provides the central space around which the buildings are arranged.

The court as an extension

Pure architectural volumes frame the court, which acts as an exterior extension of the chapel. The relationship between interior and outdoor space is central to the design.

Tradition, interpreted

The architecture draws on the memory of traditional religious buildings, interpreted through a restrained contemporary language. Simple forms and their arrangement around the court give the project its character.
